hy do you train?
I train for my physical, mental and emotional health, and so that I can continue to be active as I get older. I enjoy training with my wife, Kelly and my son, Luke.
What motivates you?
I’m motivated to make progress in my physical strength and fitness, and to be able to accomplish things that I was not previously able to do. I feel like physical training has a positive influence on the other areas of my life.
In what ways does training help you in your daily life?
The 5pm Team Training class is something I look forward throughout the day. For work, I often spend considerable time traveling, sitting at a desk or in meetings, and I can’t wait to get outside and/or to Paradigm, to get active.
Can you describe your Level Up experience?
I’ve tested 3 times (maybe 4?). I have one exercise that I need to pass before I advance to the Intermediate Level or better for all exercises (two kettlebell front squat). I’ve been able to get to the Advanced Level on Rower and Deadlift, and Master Level on Farmers Carry. I wouldn’t say any of it was easy! But, I surprised myself by accomplishing some of the exercises at those levels. I’m a firm believer that consistent efforts produce results. I’ve stayed after Team Training sometimes to try to improve at some of the exercises.
What is your training/athletic background?
I played high school baseball and basketball. I enjoy running and have trained for/run dozens of 5K, 10K and half-marathon races. I’ve run one marathon. And, I’ve coached youth baseball and basketball for almost 10 years. I played competitive adult basketball and surf a lot, but not much anymore (don’t have time to do it all).
Why do you choose Paradigm Sport?
I chose Paradigm because Luke has been part of the baseball program at Paradigm since he was 11 (he’ll be 15 soon). I bought a one-month membership for my 45th birthday, a year and a half ago, got hooked, and have been coming to Paradigm ever since. I appreciate the professionalism of the program and people at Paradigm. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and motivating to be around.
