hy do you train?
I train for my health and my family. I am a better person, a better mother, a better friend, and better family member when I train. I have two young kids, ages 4 and 2. At 41 years old I have to be in good shape to keep up with them. I want to be able to keep up with them when I am 60 and 70 too! I never want to face a day where my kid asks me to pick him up and I tell him he’s too heavy!
How does training help you in your daily life?
I believe you can take your “workouts” anywhere. I am that crazy mom at the park doing pull ups on the monkey bars or squats while I push my kid on the swing. I am on the side of the soccer field doing burpees, and racing my kids up the path home from the beach. “Life” is my sport and the greatest adventure I know.
Can you describe your Level Up experience?
I’ve participated in Level Up a few times (2 I think). I made it onto the leaderboard under the Advanced Category missing the mark on the rower. I got pregnant and trained until the day before my son was born. Right about when I was feeling 100%, I got pregnant with my daughter and again trained until just before she was born! I just turned 41 this week and my daughter turns 2 next week. I had been slowly increasing the weight I was lifting during workouts, pushing myself to test my limits. I decided if not now when? At 41 I am undoubtably in the best all around shape (strength, physical health, mental health, etc.) I’ve been in my life. I gave it my best shot and was pretty dang happy to land in the Master category.
What is your training/athletic background?
I ran trails daily in college, was an outdoor adventure guide and was a whitewater raft guide after college. I love mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, anything outdoors. I started training with Joey when I was getting ready to go to the police academy in 2011. I wanted to gain strength. I followed Joey when he opened Paradigm Sport and have been here since.
